Bove Valley

Come on, ... a new adventure begins !!!!

SOUTH AND CENTRAL CRATER - There are two ways to get to the craters form Sapienza Refuge:

1. trekking two ours following the old jeep path and then carry on with the guides till high share;

2. or going up with the funicolar and the jeep till Montagnola, and then reach the crater with the guides.

CRATERS ERUPTION 2001-2002: Refugio Sapienza starts another exursion to 2001-2002 craters eruptions. It's easy just 1 hour (going and return). At the end of the street, near the restaurant Casa Cantoniera, starts the path. Following the indication you arrived to the first and second craters. The first above all seems a "cratera", a large and profound cave, without the roof, ... very charming, but be very carefull,  don't walk on to the ragged edge.

ACQUAROCCA - Acquarocca is a rock wall in which is possible to play free climbing. It's yet the easiest access to Bove Valley, after two hours trekking. The path starts at Piana del Vescovo, above Zafferna centre.

ETNA NORD: PIANO PROVENZANO, CITELLI REFUGE - It starts form Zafferana centre, following the street direction Etna Nord. For Piano Provenzana turn on the right, for Citelli Refuge on the left. You can visit the caves along the road: "Snow Cave", painted by Houel and exposed to Louvre Museum, "Strawberries Cave", and so on... From Citelli starts the excursions for Serracozzo cave, eruptive mouth in 1971, walking on the path. Carrying on about 2 hours you'll have a beautiful view of Bove Valley and Dicchi del Re, a lavic formation typical of Etna eruption.

On the return stop at the refuge and don't forget to taste Etna Fire (Fuoco dell'Etna) a much alcoholic local liquor, or an hot chocolate. It's your reward at the end of a cold winter day. In summer a tasty icecream, or an ice drink is the best gift for you brave explorers. Have a nice day .... see you !!!
